2019: Milan & Paris Fashion Week

Milan & Paris Fashion Week 2019

Paris and Milan Fashion Week were weeks to remember this year, filled with nods to fashion’s past, memorials to the late Karl Lagerfeld, and a true celebration of the current state of the fashion industry. With fashion month coming to a close, we thought it would be best to give a brief overview of both of these fashion weeks.

Without further ado, we present to you our guide to Milan and Paris Fashion Week 2019:

2019 Milan Fashion Week

This year, Milan Fashion Week was filled with emotion and bold luxury. The week, of course, featured your go-to Italian fashion houses such as Dolce & Gabbana along with shocking newcomers expected to make a splash in the upcoming year. Here are a few of the highlights:

Prada

The Prada 2019 Milan Fashion Week show was largely influenced by a romance divided into two parts. Their Fall collection represented two different sides of a love story - showing the darker sides of love along with the happy moments.

The show began with models in bold black outfits. The show slowly faded into softer floral patterns. There were florals paired with black outfits and intertwined military wear. It told the story of love through romantic touches and darker influences.

Fendi

All eyes were on Fendi for the 2019 Milan Fashion Week. Karl Lagerfeld, a Fendi force since the late 60s, died just days before the show in Milan so audiences were eager to see how Fendi would honor the late Lagerfeld.

Fendi did not disappoint. The show featured Lagerfeld’s very last collection with Fendi. There was no shortage of chin-reaching collars, butter-tones, and A-list Lagerfeld favorite supermodels. The show closed out with a heartfelt tribute to the genius himself, Karl Lagerfeld.

Gucci

Alessandro Michele brought an ancient mysticism forward with this most recent 2019 show. By incorporating masks into the show, Gucci told the story of authenticity and freedom. The show featured boxy suits, shocking colors, and bold textures.

But the real star of this show was the atmosphere. Michele designed a 100-meter runway complete with mirrors and 120,000 LED lights. It was a gothic masterpiece.

2019 Paris Fashion Week

2019 Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week is arguably the most iconic and deciding week for fashion for the entire year. This year, Paris Fashion Week was jam-packed with tributes to Karl Lagerfeld and show-stopping designs from the most iconic brands known to fashion. Let’s dive into a few: /p>

Chanel

Audiences were on the edge of their seat to see how Chanel would honor their late Creative Director, Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld’s influence was greatly present in the 2019 Chanel Autumn line.

The runway was a winter wonderland, bearing snow-covered artistry. Lagerfeld’s final collection with Chanel was bold and over-the-top with stunning tweed riddled throughout the show.

Balenciaga

Gvasalia designed the Balenciaga Fall collection with one, and only one focus in mind - pure clothing. Gvasalia removed any distractions and created an intimate show that focused on the one thing that truly mattered.

This minimalistic show featured bold silhouettes, rounded yet defined shoulders, and chic pantsuits. It was evident that the focus was on the true consumer and fashion that people day-to-day.

Alexander McQueen

Within moments of walking into the Alexander McQueen Paris Fashion Week show, it’s clear that the focus is on the tradition and history of English fashion.

The fascinating creations were greatly influenced by the traditions of England featuring fabrics from industrial mills significant to England’s history. Each trouser suit, nipped waistline, wool influence, and floral design was an echo of England’s rich past.

Givenchy

Givenchy’s Clare Waight Keller presented the Fall Givenchy collection with suits in mind. The collection largely revolved around tailoring. The designs all featured suited silhouettes. Each design was greatly influenced by the 90’s shrunken shoulder look as well as the strong 40’s shoulder.

Keller established Givenchy as the place to go for a bold suit with this memorable collection.

Saint Laurent

Vaccarello’s collection for Saint Laurent perfectly embellished Saint Laurent’s bold legacy. The collection donned beautiful oversized wool blazers reminiscent of war times. The tailoring was so precise that it took Vaccarello six months to perfect.

The collection also featured luxurious beaded evening jackets, polka-dot tights, knee-boots, and more.
